The Gushing Cinephile: August 5, 2013

Let’s pretend that you all noticed The Gushing Cinephile’s absence last week and just move on, shall we? It is the first Monday of August and we are exactly one month away from the start of the Toronto International Film Festival! In case you missed it, late last month TIFF unveiled the first two batches of films that will be playing at the festival. You can click on the TIFF button in the main menu at the top of this page to check out all the films released thus far. The Cinema Monster will be continuing to post every film announced henceforth and any other TIFF news up until the start of the festival. Then, I will be attending a bunch of screenings at the festival itself and post reviews, Q and A’s, and any news deemed significant daily. Or, you can follow The Cinema Monster on twitter (@cinema_monster) and Facebook for up to the minute news regarding TIFF.

That’s enough about TIFF, let’s get into The Gushing Cinephile and check out the most important movie news released in the past two weeks. Remember, you can check out past editions of The Gushing Cinephile by clicking the news button in the main menu at the top of this page.

X-Men: Days of Future Past: Viral Campaign:

First up, Bryan Singer’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past” started its viral marketing campaign earlier this week. Released was the first images of the Sentinel robots and an introductory video regarding Trask Industries. You can check out both below. It is the sequel to 2010′s smash-hit “X-Men: First Class” and is scheduled for release on May 23, 2014.

Transcendence Synopsis:

Next, we get our first, albeit rough synopsis for Academy Award winner Wally Pfister’s directorial debut “Transcendence” and a behind-the-scenes image. Pfister has collaborated with director Christopher Nolan on many occasions and won an Oscar for his cinematography in “Inception.” Check out the brief synopsis and the cool pic below featuring Rebecca Hall and Paul Bettany.

“Will Caster, forefather of A.I., has his consciousness uploaded onto the internet. Once there, is it really Will who is interacting with humanity in order to make things better, or a darker sinister clone bent on the termination of the world as we know it?”

Nymphomaniac Clip:

Now, below you’ll find a brand new clip from Lars Von Trier’s upcoming film “Nymphomaniac” staring Shia LaBeouf and a sexy picture as well.

New Trailers:

Finally, we have a trio of new trailers. The first is a rather quick teaser that does nothing more than frustrate and add hype to the new season of “Sherlock.” Then we have the first trailer for David O. Russell’s follow up to “Silver Linings Playbook.” “American Hustle.” Last, but certainly not least is the first trailer for “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” staring Ben Stiller. This trailer really caught me off guard, it looks phenomenal.

The Gushing Cinephile: June 10, 2013

Another week of The Gushing Cinephile and I am starting to really enjoy this segment. Have I got a few little tidbits of exciting news for you!

Let’s start off with what I feel to be the most important development of the week. Apparently, acclaimed filmmaker Takashi Miike, director of cult favourites such as “Ichi the Killer,” “Audition,” and “13 Assassins” is set to make his hollywood debut. After directing in excess of 50 Japanese films, Miike’s first english-language film will be entitled “The Outsider” and will star none other than the illustrious Tom Hardy. The film is supposedly set in post-World-War II Japan and follows a former american soldier who has now become involved with the Yakuza. Other than this information, very is little known about the upcoming film. Production is scheduled to begin early in 2014.

Moving on, “X-Men: Days of Future Past” director Bryan Singer tweeted this epic photo of Michael Fassbender as Magneto from the set of the film.

Up next, we have two new images from ”The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.” Before I get into that, be sure to keep your eyes peeled on Tuesday as the first trailer from the film is supposedly going to drop.

First is a look at Evangeline Lilly as elf-warriror Tauriel.

Second, a poster for the film released a couple of days ago.

Now, onto more upsetting news, well, at least for me anyway. As you know, I am an avid fan of the television show “Shameless” and if you follow the show like me, you know that Justin Chatwin’s character Steve/Jimmy’s fate was left open-ended after last season’s finale. It recently broke that Chatwin would not be returning to the show, seemingly ending his relationship with Fiona, played by the radiant Emmy Rossum. Hopefully, somewhere down the line, Steve/Jimmy can return.

FInally, a couple of new trailers were released this past week. The first is for James Wan’s highly anticipated “Insidious: Chapter 2″ and the second is the new trailer for “Filth” starring James McAvoy.

Insidious: Chapter 2.

Filth:

Okay guys, that’ll do it for The Gushing Cinephile this week. Remember that Hans Zimmer’s soundtrack for “Man of Steel” drops Tuesday. Also, let me know what you guys think about this week’s edition. Any bit of news you’re particularly looking forward to? Let me know! Everyone have a great week!
