The Gushing Cinephile: May 20, 2013

Well now, I hope you all had a terrific weekend and for those in Canada, like me, enjoy the extra day off. It is time for the second edition of The Gushing Cinephile and I think I’ve compiled a few treats that all of you should really enjoy. Let’s jump right in!

First up, a few new trailers released this past week. The first is for James Franco’s As I Lay Dying. I had no knowledge of this films existence until I saw the trailer. This Franco directed adaptation of William Faulkner’s timeless novel has got my attention to say the least. I’m not really sure what to expect, but I’m looking forward to seeing how Franco and company handle this delicate piece of literature.

Second, the red-band trailer for V/H/S 2. The teaser trailer had me shaking and cringing, but this new look at the follow up to V/H/S has me hiding under the sheets. It is fair to say that I am eagerly awaiting its release.

Lastly, the official trailer for Europa Report. I am really into science-fiction films that have to do directly with space, physics, and reality. It may not entirely deal within these facets, but the trailer looks fantastic, can’t wait to see it.

Next up, there was a couple of finales this week and they really got to me. Saturday Night Live said goodbye to long time “Weekend Update” host Seth Myers and more than likely Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, and Jason Sudeikis. They aren’t leaving at the best time I’d say. The show, without doubt, had a tough year compared to its previous seasons. Now, with the departures of four, popular regulars, SNL really has its work cut out for it. It’ll be interesting to see who they bring in to replace the four comedic geniuses and how they plan on upping their game next season. What do you guys think will happen with SNL?

Sadly, we had to say goodbye to The Office this past week. However, it was a bittersweet moment as there were a few surprises and laughs to accompany the occasional tears. What did you think of The Office’s final sendoff?

In more, positive news, Christopher Nolan is reportedly in talk to direct Bond 24 and I am perfectly fine with that. While the odds of it actually happening are slim right now, there is no problem with dreaming is there?

I’ll post the link below. Also, don’t forget to check out this past week’s top 19 which featured films that are the most difficult to watch. Have a great week!
