Basically, even though a gem slips by every once and a while, they still don’t tend to add anything to the original experience. Or at least not enough to make its existence justified.

That’s one thing I’ve come to appreciate from certain movies and directors. The ones who are able to tell stories without preaching usually get more of a rise from me than the ones who hit you over the head with their own opinions. There are probably exceptions and movies that do it to lesser degrees that I like, but I prefer movies that ask pointed questions and let you be the judge.
